I'm 5' 9" 170 pounds, I have alright handles and a decent shot. I usaully set picks and snag lay-ups as opposed to shooting threes though. What should I look for in a basketball shoe? They all say a ton of really fancy stuff, but I don't understand any of it.

I think any Michael Jordan-related shoes are great for shooting guards. Because, he is a great shooting guard and could even jump 15 feet!
Any basketball shoes will work really. Jordans and Nike's are of course the top brands. Rebok will work just fine too.
personally i like adidas because there comfortable they have good grip and they don't catch the dust on the floor as easily as nike!!
but its what you feel will work for you!

im thinking maybe some mid-high tops, cushioned on the bottoms maybe, something sturdy though too
