Sudan
Rebuild Sudan on Vimeo. | Southern Sudan.Twenty-one years of civil war.
An entire generation lost to poverty, displacement, and violence. After four years of prevailing peace in Southern Sudan, many Southern Sudanese still do not enjoy even the basic socio-economic services. The rate of unemployment is high, food security is tenuous, particularly in some returnee communities and the average per capita income is assessed to be less than US $1 per day. Delivery of basic services such as primary education, healthcare and clean water is severely limited and inadequate provision of these basic human needs can lead to competition and conflict. – UNHCR, March 2009 |
